Prince Caspian Redo

I am redoing the Prince Caspian Blog since there is a new format for blogging books
Prince Caspian, by C.S. Lewis, 216 (times 2) pages

Imagine fighting a strong and evil king.  In C.S. Lewis's Prince Caspian, that is the situation that Prince Caspian is facing.  A magical horn calls for help, and Edmund, Lucy, Susan, and Peter are drawn back to Narnia where they meet a dwarf who tells them how humans from Telmarine have taken over and wiped out almost all the original Narnian creatures.  It was Prince Caspian that blew through the horn since he and the rest of the old Narnians needed help to conquer the Telmarines.  After the group joins the old Narnians, they have victory over the Telmarines.  Throughout the story, Prince Caspian shows perseverance and courage.  If I were Prince Caspian, I would have blown through the magical horn earlier.

Prince Caspian

This book too is great.  It is the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia, and I wouldn't mind calling it the best.
Prince Caspian, by C.S. Lewis, 216 (times 2) pages

Edmund, Lucy, Peter, and Susan are going back to boarding school when whoosh and they're in Narnia!  They had once been kings and queens of Narnia as adults, but once back in our world, they were children again.  Between that time and now in Narnia, thousands of years have passed and now the children are in the ruins of the castle they were kings and queens in!  They meet a dwarf who tells them about how the talking beasts and other Narnian creatures were almost wiped out by humans from Telmarine.  Prince Caspian is one of the Telmarines, but he is on the old Narnian's side.  He had blown through a horn that called for help and therefore Edmund, Lucy, Susan, and Peter appeared.  Now it's up to Prince Caspian, the children, and the old Narnians to defeat the Telmarines and send them back home.  If they don't succeed, then the Telmarines completely take over Narnia, and the real Narnians will be gone forever.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

This novel had a great story, but I read the unabridged version and it was a hard book, so it took me more than two months to finish it.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne, 448 pages

Here is an exciting novel in which Professor Arronax, his servant Conseil, a Canadian whale hunter named Ned Land, and many other scientists set out on a ship in pursuit of something that Professor Arronax thinks to be a humongous narwhal.  The group find this creature, but the "narwhal" is faster.  Professor Arronax, Conseil, and Ned are thrown overboard, and they find out that "the narwhal" is actually a submarine commanded by a strange man named Captain Nemo.  The group is never to leave the Nautilus, the submarine, at Captain Nemo's orders.  Professor Arronax and Conseil really enjoy their stay on board the Nautilus since they were stupefied by the amazing wonders they could see from the Nautilus.  Captain Nemo even took the Nautilus to the South Pole!  However, Ned Land was not as pleased with the voyage as the group was totally cut off from humanity since that was exactly what Captain Nemo seemed to be fleeing from.  Nine months after boarding the Nautilus, Ned, Professor Arronax, and Conseil learn that this fantastic submarine is not just a tool used to understand and see science; it is used as a device of vengeance.  Captain Nemo was sinking British ships because he hated them for killing his family.  Ned, Professor Arronax, and Conseil are disgusted.  They want to escape from the Nautilus and stay rejoin humanity.  Will they succeed in escaping from the Nautilus or will their plans be discovered by Captain Nemo?

The Sea of Monsters

This is the second book in the Percy Jackson series and it's awesome.  Read the Lightning Thief blog entry first if you are not familiar with this series.
The Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan, 279 pages

In this book, Percy Jackson meets his cyclops giant brother named Tyson, and with the help of  him and Annabeth, Percy has to save camp half-bloods boundaries from vanishing.  Percy also needs to save Grover who called him in his dreams, and because Percy and Grover have an empathy link, if Grover dies, Percy will die too.  Luke is the one who had poisoned Thalia's tree, which is the tree that creates camp half-blood's boundaries.  To save camp half-blood and Grover, Percy and his friends have to go to the Sea of Monsters, get the fleece which is a magical that heals everything it touches, and save somehow get past the cyclops, Polyphemus, who is guarding the fleece and Grover.  If Percy and his friends don't succeed in their quest, the only safe place for half-bloods will be destroyed.

Magician's Nephew Project Script

As you know, we did Magician's Nephew projects in class today.  Jonathan, Jay, and I created a skit.  If you want to see the script of the skit, click here.  I know that our skit may have been funny because of the girl wigs.

The Horse and His Boy

This is the third book in the chronicles of Narnia, but I think that the others are a little better.
The Horse and His Boy, by C.S. Lewis, 224 (times 2) pages

In this book, a boy named Shasta who lives in Calormen with someone who claims to be his father, finds out that he is a Narnian and meets a taking horse named Bree who also wants to return to Narnia, his birthplace.  On their way, Shasta and Bree meet a girl named Avaris and another talking horse named Hwin who are escaping to Narnia from slavery.  On their way to Narnia, the group have to cross a city called Tashban.  In the city, Shasta is mistaken to be Prince Corin who is the son of the son of the king of Archenland, the land between Narnia and Calormen.  Shasta then switches out with the real Prince Corin and returns to the spot on the side of Tashban closer to Narnia where the group had decided to meet if seperated.  Meanwhile, Avaris meets an old friend and discovers that to get to the correct side of Tashban, she has to go through a door in the garden of the king of Tashban's palace.  While going through the palace, Avaris hears about an attack planned on Archenland and Narnia.  Then, Shasta, Avaris, Bree and Hwin meet again and continue their journey, and decide to warn the Kings and Queens of Narnia and Archenland.  Bree, Hwin and, Avaris stay in a hermit's place and Shasta warns the king of Archenland about the attack planned.  Shasta has to warn Narnia and Archenland in time for these countries to not be defeated by Calormen.

The Magician's Nephew

As you know, we've been reading Magician's Nephew in class.  I am going to write about waking Jadis and bringing her to Narnia from Digory's point of view.
The Magician's Nephew, by C.S. Lewis, 202 pages

I, Digory Kirke, am very ashamed of myself.  Polly and I were in this whole different world called Charn, and although Polly told me not to, I struck a bell that woke up this evil, cruel, pitiless woman.  I regret making that move!  Then, when we could have ceased the presence of this horrifying woman who called herself Queen (more likely Witch) Jadis I felt sorry for her and she got time to catch me getting to Earth with Polly and me!  After that, I was able to teleport her along with Polly, a Cabby, Uncle Andrew and the Cabby's horse into another world where there was nothing.  Then, by magic, this whole world sprung to life when a Lion sung a song!  It was so fresh and new!  I will never forgive myself for bringing evil to this new and cruel world that deserves happiness.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians; The Lightning Thief

This is the first Percy Jackson book I've read and it's extremely good.
The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan, 375 pages

In this exciting book, Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon the water god, finds out that he is a demigod, and is sent to Camp Half Blood which is the only safe place for him to be protected from monsters.  Now, Percy is on a quest with two friends, Annabeth and a satyr named Grover, to find the master lightning bolt of Zeus, the sky god. This is Zeus's most powerful weapon and he blames Percy for its disappearance.  In reality, Percy has not stolen anything, and if he does not find the master lightning bolt and return it to Zeus in 10 days time, World War III will begin between Zeus and Poseidon, and many normal people will die.  It's up to Percy and his friends to save the world from the largest war in history to break out.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

This was in my opinion  a really good book, and I finished it in a day.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis, 192 (times 2) pages

In this Narnian adventure, Edmund, Lucy, Peter, and Susan entered the world of Narnia by walking through a wardrobe in a professor's house.  Lucy, the first one to go, met a Faun who told her about Queen/Witch Jadis, and later Edmund made friends with the queen and stayed on her side, the evil side.  Then all the children went to Narnia and Edmund returned to the good side after being treated badly by the witch. They needed the help of Aslan to destroy Jadis, and help the Faun and all the other good creatures whom the White Witch Jadis had turned into stone.  Will they succeed in conquering Jadis and her army, and hence end the evil of Narnia?

The Shakespeare Stealer

I actually read this book quite a while ago at the beginning of the school year, but I never posted it on my blog.
The Shakespeare Stealer, by Gary Blackwood, 216 pages

Widge, and orphan, is bought by Falconer, who works for Simon Bass from Dr. Bight.  Falconer accompanies Widge to London where Widge is supposed to copy Shakespeare's Hamlet in a secret code he learned from Dr. Bight.  Eventually Widge unwillingly has no choice other than to join the Shakespeare's company!  He later makes friends with the people in Shakespeare’s company, and considers them family, but if he betrays his Falconer and Bass (who later turn out to be the same person), Widge may get severely punished.  Widge has to make a hard decision: betray his first friends, or his master.

Rain and Hail Poem

Today we wrote a poem about rain and hail in class.  I decided to write mine in Haiku form.  here is my poem:
Rain and hail falling,
Making beautiful music,
The ground white like pearl.
